In answer to Sony Ericsson’s Greenphones, Samsung goes green with its first solar-powered mobile phones. The Crest Solar has a large solar cell on the back of the handset. It can provide up to 10 minutes of talk time every one-hour charge under the sun.
The E1107’s camera is dual band and could be use for both the 900 Mhz and 1800 Mhz range. There’s also an FM radio, MP3 ringtones, games and flashlight. The Samsung Crest Solar includes the Mobile Tracker, which can alert authorities with an SOS signal in the event of an emergency. There’s also a fake call feature to cut well-timed phone calls. Plus, some specialized features like specialized markets and even religious preferences are included in the handset.
The handset still uses an AC adapter so you can still charge it the normal way. But if you’ve got the time to let it stay under the sun for an hour or two, it would make a big difference to the environment.
Price is currently at $59 for the Asian market. No word yet, however, when it will be released on the Western soil.
