A few days ago we reported that the Zune HD will be released on September 8, but like said: those were only rumors. Well, the rumors continue, but this time we can say that they are more reliable due to an interview with an alleged software engineer at Microsoft. According to the software engineer, the Zune HD is the best Zune ever thanks to its Zune 4.0 which comes with better battery life, full touchscreen, multitouch, videos, and HDMI.
In order to convince people to get the Zune HD and not the iPod touch, Microsoft will have to come up with a great marketing strategy, and the Microsoft software engineer says that the Zune HD “has the potential to sell 90% better than previous Zunes.”
We already knew that the Zune HD features an HDMI port, but we didn’t know that the Zune Marketplace is going to be packed with movies and HD movies. Microsoft is “working hard” to reach an agreement with all major studios so that there won’t be any licensing issues.
The Zune HD is coming in 16GB and 32GB, but the Microsoft software engineer said that the Zune team is working on a 64GB Zune that will be released in late-2009, probably just before Christmas, but I think this depends on how good the Zune HD sells. Microsoft put the Zune HD on store shelves in early-September, however the prices are not set yet, but the 16GB Zune HD will be prices somewhere between $249-$280.
Lastly, the software engineer was keen to underline the important of NVIDIA Tegra which will probably convince many people to buy the Zune HD.
Are these reports true? Well, they are in line with the previous rumors so it sounds legit. We can hardly wait for the Zune HD to become available, and the good thing is that we don’t have to wait too much.
