PwnageTool 3.1 Released To Jailbreak iPhone 2G, 3G, and iPod Touch 1G
The iPhone Dev Team has released the iPhone OS 3.1 jailbreak with a couple of major downsides: the jailbreak technique will not jailbreak the iPhone 3GS, the iPod Touch 3rd generation, and the iPod Touch 2G. According to the developers, these three will be jailbroken soon, but you must not upgrade via the Apple Software Update, you will have to do it via a PwnageTool created .ipsw.
Apple has updated their update technology therefore the iPhone 3GS is very hard to jailbreak, meaning that you will have to be patient. If you can wait a few more days then you will get your iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2nd and 3rd generation jailbreak and unlock as redsn0w for Mac OS X and Windows will be available “in the near future.”
The devs say that this new release comes with PwnageTool 3.1 for Mac OS X which will unlock the iPhone 2G, the iPhone 3G, and the original iPod Touch.
You can download the PwnageTool 3.1 here, and you can read more about it at the iPhone Dev Team website here.
