Yesterday we reported that Sprint might drop the price of the Palm Pre to $149.99, and they didn’t do that. We’re sorry about misleading you. Well, Sprint dropped $100 from Pre’s price and the smartphone now costs $99.99. Six hours later: BOOM! The carrier says that it was a mistake and that it’s sorry, however, all the people who paid $100 will receive the WebOS handset at that price. Minutes later the company announced that the Palm Pre will be available for the price of $149.99 until further notice.
We feel good about getting this one right, but we would have felt better if Pre’s price remained $99.99. Please note that the amount consists of a $150 instant rebate and a $100 MIR (mail-in rebate). A lot of fuss until you actually get to pay $140, but it’s worth it. The Palm Pre is a wonderful device, and it will get even better today WebOS 1.2 should be available for download today, and the patch notes surely do look promising.
