From the words of Sony Ericsson president Hideki Komiyama, “it could happen”. In a recent interview to the Financial Time, Mr. Komiyama expressed his wish to reposition the company as one the world’s top three phone makers going as far as saying “a PlayStation mobile, building on the Walkman and Cybershot phones, could happen.” This is certainly a glimpse of hope to the millions of PSP fans who are waiting for such a device. With rumors of the PSP2 or PSP Go! that it will arrive this year, why not a PSP Phone? It wouldn’t be a too far-fetched idea considering that Sony Corp. handles manufacturing of both handsets and game consoles.
Please note that the image above is just a concept.
No further comments have been made. From now we can start speculating like crazy. It will probably have a decent touch-screen, a nice camera, good internal memory, analog controls and hopefully, powerful hardware specs. But, if we would take notice of the fact that the PSP2 or Go! will probably be based on the same PSP hardware(some rumors have it that way), it is pretty obvious that the PSP Phone will have the same fate. We’ll just have to wait and see…
Still, Sony Ericsson is working on some smartphones that will be released in the future, although experts don’t have high expectation from these smartphone, they surely have a different opinion on the PSP+Phone mash-up.
All in all , if Sony Ericsson’s president said that “it could happen” then the company has put much thought in the idea of a PSP Phone, which again, is great information for people who have dreamed for such a device.
